We currently think the universe is everything that exists and that it started with the big bang. However, the physics Nobel Laureate Sir Roger Penrose suggests before the Big Bang created the universe, there was another universe. He says black holes are proof of its existence.

Sir Roger Penrose made the claim after recently winning the award for breakthroughs in Einstein’s general theory of relativity and proof of the existence of black holes.
He says there is evidence of ‘unexplained spots’ of electromagnetic radiation dotted across the sky. According to him, they are ‘the size of a full Moon’ that he calls Hawking Points.
Penrose says these warm spots are remnants of a previous universe that existed before the Big Bang. And they could be a clue to our future universe.
He’s confident that these spots prove the ‘conformal cyclic cosmology’ theory of the universe. The theory suggests the Big Bang only marks the end of one universe and the beginning of another, also known as ‘aeon’.
Under Penrose’s theory, Hawking Points resemble the final expulsion of energy or Hawking radiation which is transferred by black holes that existed in the previous universe.
“The Big Bang was not the beginning,” Penrose said, according to the paper. “There was something before the Big Bang and that something is what we will have in our future.”
The name comes after Professor Stephen Hawking who suggests black holes leak radiation and over a long period of time they will evaporate to nothing.

The theory is controversial. But Penrose says black holes were once considered controversial but now they are part of mainstream science.
Black holes exist throughout the universe. They are regions of space where gravity is enormously strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space.
In Penrose’s view, a universe will continue to expand until all of its matter eventually decays. And then, in its place, a new one will begin.
The theory effectively states that universes develop, expand, and die in sequence, with black holes in each one leaving a mark on the universe to follow.
There is a possibility that the timescale for the complete evaporation of a black hole could be longer than the age of our current universe. Thus, we cannot detect it.
“We have a universe that expands and expands, and all mass decays away, and in this crazy theory of mine, that remote future becomes the Big Bang of another aeon,” he said, according to The Telegraph.
“So our Big Bang began with something which was the remote future of a previous aeon and there would have been similar black holes evaporating away, via Hawking evaporation, and they would produce these points in the sky, that I call Hawking Points.
“We are seeing them. These points are about eight times the diameter of the Moon and are slightly warmed up regions. There is pretty good evidence for at least six of these points.”
He published a paper on these ‘Hawking Points’ in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society in May. Penrose says scientists have found them within the Cosmic Microwave Background sky.
