Newsletter subscriptions
Signing up sends your email address directly to Buttondown, our newsletter service. We use it to confirm your subscription, deliver The Cosmic Dispatch and manage your preferences. Signup is optional and requires email confirmation. We do not sell your email address.
Buttondown also processes service information such as subscription timestamps, IP addresses and referring pages. Depending on newsletter settings and your email software, delivery, open and click information may be recorded. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in each issue. Unsubscribing stops newsletter delivery; records may remain to respect your preferences and document consent. You can request deletion by contacting us.
Merch and checkout
The bag stores product choices, sizes and quantities in your browser. It does not collect your payment details or delivery address. These choices remain until you remove them or clear your browser's site data. Adding an item creates no order. When you continue to checkout, the selected products, sizes and quantities are sent to Fourthwall.
Purchases use Fourthwall's hosted checkout. Fourthwall and its payment and fulfillment partners process information needed for orders, including contact details, delivery addresses, payment information and order contents. We may receive order and customer information to assist with support. Payment details are entered at the provider's checkout, rather than on our website. Fourthwall's own privacy notice applies to its services.
Videos, images and fonts
Video players load from YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed domain only after you press play. Video thumbnails can load from YouTube before you press play. Images and product previews hosted elsewhere also send ordinary request information to their hosts. Our Google Fonts load from Google's servers. These requests can disclose your IP address, browser information and referring page. Following a social, video or other external link takes you to that service, where its own policies apply.
Maps and simulations
The asteroid simulation requests visible city map tiles from OpenStreetMap. The tile service receives ordinary connection information, including your IP address and referring site. We do not request your device location or send your chosen asteroid settings or impact results to the map service. Our simulations calculate their results in your browser.
Hosting, security and contacting us
Cloudflare delivers the hosted website and can process connection information to serve pages and protect the service. If you email us, we process your message and contact details to respond, using our Google Workspace email service. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless necessary for your request.
Where applicable, we rely on your consent for the newsletter, legitimate interests for responding to requests and protecting the website, and contractual or legal requirements for handling order-related matters. Providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States, under their applicable transfer arrangements.
Retention and your choices
We retain information for the purpose for which it was collected, including managing subscriptions, answering requests and meeting applicable recordkeeping requirements. Retention varies by record and provider; we do not promise a fixed deletion period that their services cannot support. Preview bag data stays on your device until you remove it.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive your personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and complain to a data protection authority. Contact us to exercise these rights. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already occurred lawfully.
